Iron Trail

Iron Trail

Throughout the Pre-Revolutionary Colonies and well into the Industrial Revolution, one thing seemed to be a pretty constant element in the innovation and the economic success of early America - iron. Iron was, and still is, utilized in many areas of daily life. Everything from simple hinges to heavy ships and artillery, it is the primary aspect of steel which we use in nearly every facet of our contemporary lives.

My current work and research has been focused on the pre-industrial revolution sites and production methods. Pulling forward elements from previous work, I seek to create my own versions and understanding of the process of iron production. In addition to the physical process of creating charcoal and smelting pig irons, I am also interested in the role the iron industry played in the success of the American Revolution.
